Qualifying For Weight Loss Surgery

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) have set minimum requirements for recommending bariatric surgery as a treatment option for weight loss:

* BMI of 35-40 with two documented obesity-related medical problems (or)
* BMI of 40 or greater


Further qualifying factors may include:

* History of documented dietary weight loss attempts
* Psychological evaluation
* Nutritional Consultation


It is important to note that these are recommendations made by the NIH.
Together, you and your Bariatric Surgery team will determine if surgery is right for you and which procedures is best suited to meet your individual needs and lifestyle.

How Will Dr. Feiz Determine If Surgery Is Right for Me?


We will do a complete assessment to see if you are right for bariatric surgery. This may include an application that describes your health and weight loss history. We also will conduct other evaluations--such as nutritional, psychological, and medical--look at your BMI, and discuss any obesity-related health conditions you may have.
